Beginning is always the most difficult part of any story. There’s something absolutely terrifying about a blank screen, an unfilled page, an empty canvas - what I’m referring to is the potential. It’s a monstrous thing. The possibilities of shaping a space, adding tone and texture, can easily seduce a person; ensnaring them once they’ve given themselves over to it.
Design, like any good book, should consume a person whole. The harmony of both content and presentation are in equal parts invaluable, and the abandon experienced in making the first mark is ultimately what soothes the initial fear. Once you’ve lost yourself to any work, there’s no turning back. You can’t put down the book, and you can never staunch the creative process. Turn the page. It’s the only thing that will satisfy.
Spring has sprung! Along with the warming weather, the scent of moist muck revealing itself beneath the snow, and the yuck-brown grass that's finally peeking out from beneath the snow, the old inspiration's reawakened: The Portfolio, I am happy to announce, has recieved a much needed reboot; new projects have been added, and the site redesigned. The Cabinet of Curiosities, also, is operational, though still un-skinned. (I hope to tackle this next, if I can find time in between Spring booking: I'm happy to announce that there will soon be a few new "welcomes" to the client family.)
Be sure to check back under the "Big Ideas" (to your right) to see what else I've got brewing in the idea cauldron, and as always, if you're looking for me, you can find me on Facebook, Livejournal or Twitter.
With the idea factory in full production, I think its safe to say that the up-and-coming work here at Elixireleven embraces a variety of different mediums and methods: Some things I'm working on include the release of an online store, a typography library, and a stable version of the blog. In other, non-design related endeavors, I'm attempting to catalogue the whole of my literary pursuits at IX Nocturne. I'm also brainstorming the first draft of an original novel: its a steampunk-inspired young adult horror-fantasy set in subterranean New York, featuring a smack of the supernatural, and dollop of good old anti-hero-inspired post-teen angst.
Also on the docket is a pet project of mine, Ci-Git. French for "Here Lies", Ci-Git is a photographic exploration of commemorative monuments.
